Oh shit.

Have I offended the mighty Ruth Lilly Poetry Foundation by making fun of Ted Kooser?  

I hadn't realized that Ted K's American Life in Poetry column was part of The Ruth Lilly Poetry Foundation's campaign to democritize poetry.

I'm sorry!   Really I am!   I was just kidding!   I love what Kooser is doing!

Honest!

Yet Poetry gave a prize to William Logan.  How does one reconcile Logan and Kooser?

How does one reconcile the pugnaciousness of Logan with the blandness of Kooser?

Haven't seen much to prove that yet.  But if it does come true, then where o' where will Billy Collins be published?

On Being Asked To Rhyme

by Billy Collins

I'm sure Billy would rise to the challenge/or squirm out of the challenge in a perfectly witty, triumphant manner.

That will be my challenge for the week.  To see if I can write a poem with that title as if written by Billy Collins.

I need to build a better Batmobile.
I'll start off with a little shopping at Wayne Industries.

How's that for a start?

I agree with you, Wils.   The recent poems in Poetry show little formalist tendencies; in fact, the poems there seem rather more obscure and knotty and ugly and formless than the norm.  I'm not sure what's going on there.   I find myself sludging through the poems and then I enjoy myself far more when I get to the essays and reviews.
